Kirsten Glass: Fun for Me
14 November 2024
The paintings in this show began in March 2024, after a long pause while I moved from London to rural Suffolk. Here I spend mornings walking out in the wildest places I can find and swimming in the sea, and then the rest of the day painting. This very physical immersion in (or battering by) Nature prepares me for the long, introverted painting sessions.
EXPO Chicago
7 April 2022
Karsten Schubert London exhibits at EXPO Chicago 2022 with a solo presentation of Northern Irish artist Kirsten Glass. To Glass, art is potentially a manifestation of a spiritual, magical process, whether or not artists realise it themselves. This marks the first time this important body of Glass's work will be exhibited.
Kirsten Glass: Swimming Witches
1 October 2020
The title of this exhibition of Kirsten Glass's new paintings is an irreverent reference to the historic witch trials when suspects were tied by ropes and thrown into deep water – if they sank and drowned they were innocent, if they floated they must be guilty. In Glass’s view, witches can swim, so her title suggests the survival of the soul, an animistic reconnection, a re-enchantment, here through the painting process. To Glass, art is potentially the manifestation of a spiritual, magical process, whether or not artists realise it. Alongside the paintings this exhibition includes an offering table assembled by Glass, containing a historic coven relic.
